Route XW on the outskirts of Bristol

One more L3 route in my area is Route XW.

Here's the pylons just heading out of Bristol and making there way to Longwell Green, there's mostly deviation towers in this area.

The pylons cross the A431 and head through a housing estate.

The pylons then make their way to Emersons Green and head along the A4174 before crossing the M4 near Westerleigh and and heading to Iron Acton.

XW is not shown on the map.

XW was the line that had those unusual L3 suspension towers with the V shape insulators, the old brown insulators were replaced with the new green glass insulators back in 2009, the line looks like it's strung for 275kv, but I think the voltage might be 132kv as there are two suspensions towers near Iron Acton that have shorter insulators than the others.

Also the line might be owned by Western Power Distribution because I saw it written on the number plate on one of the pylons so I guess it's not part of NGC.

Hi Christopher good to see this line in photos. I will have a proper look at them once on home pc. Interesting they seem to be using 275kV insulator sets and the XW code will be added to the list too. I remember those V insulators on the D towers well often passed under them on the train to and from Weston to see my brother. Not sure if I ever got a photo of them though doh!
