Does either of the earth wires have a fibre optic communications cable wrapped round it? I have seen some that do. It saves digging a trench to lay the fibre optic cable.

Hi Woodie Yes many earth wires do have fibre optic cables wraped around them. They are used for general communications. The BBC amongst others use them. Later on the fibre was put inside the cable which makes it less vunrable to litening strikes etc. I think these extra cables are fibre optic cables used when a fibre which is wraped around the earth wire is damaged. This is often done by what is called a ground deploy cable which is put on the ground to bridge the break but where this is not possible due to roads etc I think they use this temporary method. Regards Nigel
