As someone who has seen countless PL variations, I've brought together a few recent interesting images. Presumably the middle one is the "standard" Swe. PL16 D2. The left one was connected to this standard one, and differs in bracing in both arms and main structure. I haven't found my answers in the Tower Bible so my question would be is the first one a variation of Swe PL16 or another type? EDIT: Nevermind! I worked it out, it is the J L Eve PL16.And the third image is just for fun, I can't find it in any reference so I assume it is just an odd design. If I recall correctly it was chucked in a PL1 or PL1b line.

Left is the JLEve PL16 or L55 on 132 running .175" Zebra, centre is the genuine Blaw Knox SWE PL16 also on .175". Right is some PL1SS10S variant, very Millikan-ish. (Cue Indiana Jones music) Pre/postwar UK 132kV is a minefield very few fear to tread into in these fora abell, yv47r, myself and naughtyhorse are four that dip their toes into this madness... Les

Appreciate the comments and the history lesson I know I have better pictures of the right-hand one somewhere, just need to find them. For what seems to be the only forum of its type, I wish it was more popular! A large section of this line all shared this right-side modification. It was an interesting line, some of them Swe, some JLeve, some "standard" PL16s, and at least two types of double earth wire varieties. The most interesting was this JLEve PL16 beastie of mystery designation:

Hmmm now thats interesting not seen that on 132kV towers before. Plenty of bottom crossarm insulator sets replacement on L2 D2 towers - see the other thread elsewhere. Somewhere alongside a motorway then?
Cheers Paul

It was along M6 I believe. I can probably find its coordinate with a google map search.

Somewhere alongside a motorway then? Cheers Paul That's an L55S5S or JLEve PL16S5S variant it gains a couple of feet without having to put in a deviation tower or modify the pylon. They're quite common in PL16 and friends - type pylons, also not that rare in PL1 or L2/3.. Flash's website shows the alternative S5S/S10S in PL1b too the old SSEB Dalmellington PL1S set really do push it a bit.. Quite a few scattered about in here. Les
