There's a new road linking the roundabout at junction 44 of the M6 with tha A595 west of Carlisle, signposted as A689(W). This takes you past the north side of Carlisle which is pylon heaven. I spotted this where two rows of smaller pylons change angle sharply and go under another line. The tall pylon is connected on one side to the PL16 (I think) to the left which is also connected on both circiuts to this pylon to the right beside the river

To the left it goes to this angle tower which also seems to split the circuits in two directions.

Some a bit more zoomed-in taken from the road bridge. Look at the width of the bases of the smaller towers by the time they get to the ground.

I intend to go back there for a better look around next year, it was the last day of the holiday and I didn't want to test my wife's patience too far. I think you can get down along the river bank, I'm sure it's on the map as part of the Cumbria cycle way. There is also a line of single cicuit pylons further round the road and a substation with a couple of rows of what look like pre-national grid towers.
Also, there's a substation on the other side of the M6, a single circuit and more old looking smaller towers on the back roads south of Carlisle and three rows of pylons at least, going west. If you're stuck for a destination for a day out you could spend many a happy hour around Carlisle. I took more pictures but I'm still sorting through them all.
