Hi folks, my first little fieldtrip of 2014 was fairly local and easy to get to from Bolton on the bus to Kearsley then a walk past Kearsley 275/132kV substation then from there to nearby Ringley to have a look at the 132kV junction where the L2 132kV VB line from Kearsley to Bury has a double tee to a short PL16 line to a nearby substation at Outwood.
I have shown the start of the L2 VB line before in my Kearsley photo thread and this is a United Utilities operated line. The L2s use short 132kV insulator strings and single conductors.
Looking from the A667 Ringley Road approaching the junction. L2 DT is VB 6 and the PL16 DT is BP 5A

The L2 DT tower with a cable termination tee on the left side and direct tee connection on the right side to the PL16 DT tower.

The PL16 DT tower with similar cable termination and direct connection from the L2 DT tower

Incoming L2 line with VB 4 D10/30 and VB 5 D towers

Another view of the L2 DT tower with the bucket terminal arrangement on the left side

The incoming BP line from Outwood substation seen in the background with the pair of PL16 DT90 towers presumably numbered 1 and 2; then two PL16 D30s numbered 3 and 4 to join up with DT tower 5

I am not sure if the L2 DT was built when the VB line was erected in the late 1960s as the maps show that VB and BP line junction was in by 1970 map and since the L2 DT is not coded VB 6R this suggests it is the original tower and not a later replacement added to form the double tee to the BP line.
Anyway more fieldtrips soon I hope! PS saw some interesting lines whilst up in Glasgow the other weekend.
Cheers Paul
