I dug out a couple of photos of my miniature pylons from 1995/96. 1:32 scale constructed from brass angle. Insulators were made from architectural plastic railing supports from EMA model suppliers in Shepperton. PL1D30 flic.kr/p/fki6SFPL1S flic.kr/p/fkxeAwMore to come as they are unearthed.

The God YV47R will love these in his layout, that D30 reminds me of that Scot Hydro Milliken PL1 set that used to wind its way down Greendykes Lane in Dundee, also documented in here by a rather inexperienced LesC ;D (well O/T but for the railway enthusuasts) The rather bizarre Royal Scots Grey Deltic alumina workings to Alcan at Lynemouth catch that NEDL L3C DS set frequently! Google is your friend here Les

Wow those are nice very nice. How did you do the insulators? That was the one thing I struggled with when I was reworking my Hornby models to modify them and make them more like some of the PL1 towers I had seen and photographed near to New Mills. Mind you this was well before I joined PAS and got myself a copy of the Tower Bible. Mind you now I could make up a string of insulators in CAD and get some 3D ones printed I guess.... I look forward to some more photos Cheers Paul I dug out a couple of photos of my miniature pylons from 1995/96. 1:32 scale constructed from brass angle. Thanks Here's some close ups of the two insulator types; flic.kr/p/fmy94Fflic.kr/p/fmNkwdThey're 1:100 scale bases for railings (Kee clamp type made from cast aluminium) from EMA. Not sure if EMA (Engineering Model Associates) still exist at Shepperton. I will check.

Thanks for the number Paul. Do you have a current catalogue? I think they're a little pricey but chock full of goodness.
The silver wire sandwiches the insulator parts together and is basically a standard paper clip gauge and runs through the centre so the insulators "hang" correctly when under tension.
Cheers,
Alistair

No catalogue sorry I have only ever seen and purchased the bottles from model shops so I am blissfully unaware of their catalogue.
Cheers Paul

Nice new feature in PLS CADD - the OHL modeling tool. it now supports export of STL files - STereoLithography ".stl" file that can be used with 3D printers! fantastic tower modeling prospects :-) (okay so it's a few thousand for a good printer, and ten thousand or so for the software) see the results here www.powline.com/newstuff/recent.htmlbottom of the page
