As a companion topic to my railways DVDs thread, I thought I'd start a similar topic about railway books.
I do have a few but not very many and I want to mention one book which I have which is a fantastic book called "The Lost Lines of GB" published by the AA. The subtitle is "a nostalgic trip along Britain's lost railways featuring railway walks and cycle paths."
One of the routes featured is the Longdendale Trail which runs from the outskirts of east Manchester to the Woodhead Tunnel. The entire route has the Stalybridge to Thorpe March L6 pylons running alongside it and three of the pictures include some of the pylons. The best picture is a full page taken from above the Woodhead Tunnel entrance which looks down Longdendale depicting a train about the enter the tunnel and it shows the start of that part of the pylons route with the pylons dominating the picture bigtime. sadly, the author describes the pylons as "ugly" but states that at this point the cables go udnerground to Dunford Bridge for those who might not have the knowledge of such things.
It's a brilliant and fascinating book and despite the hefty £20 price tag it's well worth getting and I often dip into it.
