Coming soon a selection of photos from a fieldtrip cum walkabout I did back in April to follow the 132kV L3/L3C route from near Chapel-en-le-Frith down to the junction/terminus of the route down at New Mills about 4 miles north-west. I was also hoping to establish where the the route had been altered in the 1980s in connection with the A6(M) bypass.
Links will be added once the photos are in my photo account.
Cheers Paul

Excellent pictures once again Paul.
It would be interesting to see pictures of the end of the route at Buxton.

Yes I am intending to walk from Waterswallows (Buxton) where the route originates down to Chapel this coming Sunday weather permitting And yes lots of L3 goodness. They don't look quite the same now that the dual conductors have gone and been replaced by the single conductors and new insulators. Interestingly until the upgrade the route was dual conductored from the New Mills terminus WB 48 through to the replacement DT tower WB 30R where it reduced to single conductor thereafter through to the substation at the Buxton end. Cheers Paul

I might like to photograph these pylons, where are they located?

The route starts just outside Buxton at OS grid ref SK 077 754 and runs in a north-northwest direction towards Chapel-en-le-Frith located SK 05 81, then the route swings more west towards Furness Vale at SK 02 82 then heads northwest towards Gowhole near New Mills around SK 011 843. You can follow most of the route from Buxton heading north on the A6 then the A6(M) bypass from Chapel down to Whaley Bridge where you regain the A6 road and the route is then across the valley to the east. Turning right at Furness Vale by the railway station and down Marsh Lane will bring you to the substation.
Hope this helps Paul

Another superb selection of photos. Thanks Paul. Very strange seeing the remains of old insulators in the mud, that's bizarre!!!

Yes it was a suprise seeing the remains of the insulators in the mud below the tower. I was tempted to do some digging to see if I could find all the bits to make up a complete one but I was a) walking and b) no bags to put the bits in!! They are probably still there I guess. In fact I saw some newly decommissioned grey ceramic insulators from my namesake tower YV47R the other day!! But it was three strings of 18 disks and it would have been fun carting them off home ;D Cheers Paul

I was tempted to do that but wasn't sure how the insulator discs detached from the next. Besides they have now gone from the field But I did see some nice grimly glass insulators that had recently been taken down from a nearby L2 D60 tower YV 51. Cheers Paul
