Another short selection of photos taken from a train, this time on my return journey from Glasgow to Preston on a Virgin Voyager (yuk) via the famous Settle to Carlisle line due to engineering works at the end of February.
These aren't the best photos but show a selection of L8 towers on the Harker to Strathaven 400kV route.
First up is this L8 DTT terminal tower located at Elvanfoot and until recently fed into the substation here. The original substation has now been replaced by a much larger switching substation towards the north-west and so this DTT has been bypassed and the two sides of the circuit joined together

Then we see a standard L8 D tower

Followed swiftly by either a L8 D10 or D30 tower

Further down the valley and into the curves we see this L8 D60 looming overhead

Then some D30s

Loads of pylons very close to the line in this section but with the speed and trees and the overhead catenary it makes it fun trying to get good shots! L8 D

And to finish off here is another oddball modified Blaw Know PL16 which provides a feed to the 25kV OHL somewhere near to Quintishill. I'd spotted it on the way up and it appears that they have omitted the bottom crossarms on all of the PL16 towers. This is the PL16 DT tower behind the trees, not a brilliant view and blurred too!

Cheers Paul
