Hi all, Whilst browsing through some railway locomotive photos at an exhibition today at Stafford, I came across a photo of train with one of the L3 line towers in the background. Knowing that the train shown in the picture originated at the Alumina import terminal near Lynemouth, this based on the type of wagon behind the diesel locomotive, lead to suspect the pylon was in that area somewhere. At first glance it appears to be the same as the Coventry Hawkesbury - Berkswell route pylons - You can see the L3 line tower in the distance in this photo owen-edwards.fotopic.net/p49604506.htmlA drive along the A189 south from Lynemough should reveal the presence of these L3 towers... any offers?? Also found this photo of these L7 towers heading towards Lynemouth Power Station - the photo is actually of the coal train in the background not the pylons!! Note the extensions to the top crossarms, twin earthwires? There are 3 twin circuit L7s that connect Lynemouth coal-fired power station to the Aluminium smelting plant just across the road. Plus another L7 route which seems to tee off the L3 route. owen-edwards.fotopic.net/p51963475.htmlNo birds eye views available for this area. Cheers Paul

This is one of the areas I'll photograph in the near future the lines between Lynemouth and Alcan may be a custom voltage istr - there are a boatload of pylons in that part of NE England. Plenty of semaphore signals too and always activity at the Port of Blyth.
The other place I'll try to get to is these D66's (L1?) that follow the A69 between Carlisle and Newcastle.

L3Cs are probably my favourite tower design - inspiration for a new topic me thinks!
One of the brilliant things about rail;way photographs, as remonstrated by Paul's pictures, is that they invariably include images of pylons!

Looks suspiciously L6ish to me. I'm probably wrong but they look too big for L3, and the middle arms are longer.

I knew I should have spent that 50p on that photo Just to get the view of the pylon and not the lovely tatty BR blue class 37 that the photographer had actually captured on film ;D It was a much better view of the pylon and much closer than the url link.
