Hi, Thanks for the info, I'm still learning all of the tower designs and codes and getting my head round them.
The single arm terminal towers are very very similar to those that used to exist at nearby Macclesfield and there also similar towers at Cellarhead El Sub, and I will scan and add those photos hopefully over the weekend.
Cheers Paul

Brilliant pictures as ever. Do keep them coming. I think I can spot the first few towers from the Buxton route in one of those New Mills pictures as well...

Great bunch of photos! These two are of a PL1 terminal, which is something of a rare beast as many have been replaced with newer terminals when substations have been reorganised. Curiously, this one seems to be terminating a single-circuit 33kV line.

The only ones I can recall are at York - Osbaldwick to be precise - where there is a switching station whereby a double circuit from the York substation becomes a single circuit.

Excellent photos yet again! You've certainly captured some rarities.

Curiously, this one seems to be terminating a single-circuit 33kV line. Hi, thanks for all the comments. I will go back and take some more photos of the pylons around the New Mills area combined with some railway photography when the weather gets warmer. I wasn't just sure if it was 33kV or 66kV but what I am pretty certain of is that the circuit was originally related to a identical route of pylons that used to run between New Mills and Buxton. I believe when the substation was renewed in the 1970s ? the pylons and routes were altered, the incoming 33kV from Stalybridge was altered and the PL1 towers erected to re-route the circuit down the hill, the old 33kV route was replaced by the new L3C New Mills to Buxton route and this was wired into the existing 132kV circuit from Stalybridge abeit with new PL1 towers with catseyes top crossarms added and two low towers added to connect the two. I will go up one Sunday and get some photos of the junction between the 132kV towers and the L3C terminal tower. Then there are those miniature PL1B towers that run from Buxton to Ashwood Dale..... Cheers Paul

Combined railway and pylon pictures are commonplace. I often buy railway magazines and it's very rare for there not to be a pylon dotted in and around at least one photo.
Yes I have tried to trace those mini PL1Bs which extend on from the terminal towers of the Buxton to New Mills line. From what I can gather they basically seem to stop rather than terminate, if you see what I mean.
