Thanks. I might pop over for some more detail pictures soon, it's a little slice of heaven for pylon fans!

It sure looks like it. There's a bit of everything there isn't there.

You don't see cable supported pylons very often, they have an almost gravity defying 'Escher' feel to them.

Indeed. Those pylons are very thin as well so the anti-pylon brigade have less of an arguement given how slim and slender those pylons are.

It's mainly because in Iceland they have ice storms... bigger pylons could be knocked over with the weight of ice on them. These are minimal and wide to allow the weather to pass through.

Thank you for the info and it's a fair point too.

If you are in the Luton Bedford area in the coming months you may well see some pylons with stays on them. There are plans to start replacing malone anchore type foundations on the 70yo POA line. and if you are digging up one of the foundations, you need to stay the tower.

*BUMP!* I'll try and get some more good photos from this location in the next week if the weather cheers up a bit. Moving to Lincolnshire in the next couple of weeks, so these are my last chances!

Poyks:
If you do get the chance to mount another expedition, could I put in a request for a photo of a quad conductor spacer? I'm working on the Conductors chapter of the Field Guide just now and I don't have a good pic of a quad spacer (and the nearest to me are a 50 mile drive from home!).

Ian
