This unusual PL16 line from the former Chapelcross nuclear power station supplies the west coast main line north of Ecclefechen. It's clearly visible from the A74(M) and quite an oddity. The second line is most odd as it seems to change in design nearly every other tower running from Derby power station to the south Peak District. flic.kr/s/aHsjGBo4jn

Yes I have seen both of those lines and those around Ripley are most odd looking. These must surely be some pre-grid design with those wide tower bases.

Looks like some PL16 pylons but with only four arms. There's some pylons with only four arms at Plymouth in Devon, but I'm not sure what design they are. goo.gl/maps/5Wj26There might only be two in the line as the others look like PL1S pylons. One of the cables might be the earthwire. Christopher

I believe the top left conductor is indeed the earth wire.

The Chapelcross circuit is two single phase ones feeding the railway supply point at Ecclefechan

The one at ripley has been demolished or you ment the one in loscoe which has 8 cables
