Now I have some webspace, I can post an interesting photo I took on my honeymoon last September. www.etherow4.webspace.virginmedia.com/swiss/graphics/P1000154.JPGThis was taken near Kandersteg in Switzerland. This is where the bulk of the mountains separates canton Bern from canton Wallis/Valais. The power cables have to get over the mountains somehow and this is how.

Thanks for that - how high up do you think the pylons are situated? Perhaps we ought to try to find the highest around the world (lowest would just be at sea level, I am sure there are several of those e.g. river estuary crossings).

Well, Kandersteg, where the picture was taken, is at 3850ft and the Gemmi Pass, over which the pylons go, is 7600ft. Interestingly, the Wikipedia article on the Gemmi Pass, includes a photo showing the pylons at the pass itself en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemmi_Pass
