Hi, over the past three days I've done three fieldtrips all in the name of the pylon ;D Thursday saw a quick visit to Stalybridge to see how the alterations are getting on - I'll post these photos onto the end of my existing thread; Friday saw me goto Hartford near Northwich to track down some lovely little PL1Bs for my kit project and bagged lots of good close-up images of S2s and a S30; and today I travelled to Coventry to go and bag these mystery L2 type towers with wide middle crossarms and saw D, D30 and D60 versions of the towers mixed in with standard L2 D90 and DTs. Watch out for these photo threads shortly!!
Cheers Paul

Excellent pictures Paul.
I have never seen an L2 tower with wider middle crossarms.

Often wondered whether to call them L2C. Is that an official designation as they seem to be the only examples I have seen in the UK. So there is definitely L2C D, D30 and D60 but no D90s or DT towers.

I would like to find these L2C pylons are they the only ones in the UK?
There are two normal L2 pylons in the line at Berkswell before the line heads to the substation.

Hi Christopher, north of Coventry is the place to go and aim for Hawkesbury alongside the M6 motorway. As far as I am aware this is the only route that uses these L2C design and I haven't seen any other similar towers in my trawl across Google Earth with the tower kmz data files. I could do with revisiting these again sometime and get some more photos.

There's a L2C set that runs down part of the route from Tealing - Glenrothes - Longannet that's L8 at the Longannet end and L2 / L2C at the Tealing end these very visible L2x crosses the A90 between Dundee and Perth. It's in here somewhere LesC has designated them as L2CDS. There is deffo a pylon of this type I reckon it was developed for the then SHETL in the same way as the L3C DS / L66C was. This Wires Pipes Pylons from the '60s that shows the L2C. It didn't live long as the next issue showed L8. www.flickr.com/photos/bollops/4937594446/in/photostream/Pylonspotter Bollops is seen occasionaly in these fora perhaps he could PDF it and put it up somewhere? Hi Les, I will try and sort that out. Probably take me a while to get round to it - if you don't hear from me again within two weeks, give me a nudge by posting a comment under the Flickr pic that you linked to.
