This is a variant on the L3 that was produced with longer middle crossarms to avoid conductor clashing/galloping which is common in pylon designs where the conductors are stacked vertically like the L2 + 3s. There is a similar variant for the larger L2 design. Those running from New Mills to Buxton are L3 versions, however only the suspension towers have the longer middle crossarms, the deviation towers are normal L3 type towers.
These L2X towers are quite rare beasties for 275/400kV lines, the Coventry to Berkswell circuit has both suspension and deviation towers with long middle crossarms.
Need some research to nail this one plus more photos

I might have guessed it was a Blaw Knox... I thought it was an L66 variant at 1st and screeched to a halt on the A9 much to the annoyance of those behind me An 'I Stop for Pylons' sticker is much needed! One for the bible. It's certainly nowhere near Derbys, i get up that end quite often (comms/oil work) and will try for more pics the next time i'm up. Thanx for the help Les
